The Christa McAuliffe Academy is a one-week teacher training program of the Fox Cities Alliance for Education, a division of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce. Our mission is to improve the education of our local students by training the teachers in researched, best practices in the areas of math, science, technology and literacy.
The fifteenth annual Christa McAuliffe Academy, a program of the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry, welcomed about 170 teachers representing more than 30 school districts to Appleton North High School July 12-16.
The Academy strives to provide a professional, invigorating, and educational learning experience for K-12 teachers in the areas of math, science and technology education, in keeping with the directives of the Wisconsin Academy Staff Development Initiative (WASDI).
Academy participants toured local companies to learn about their products and services, but also about the types of jobs they offer and the skills and educational achievements these positions require. These experiences help teachers see how what they teach in the classroom proves valuable in the workplace.
Sponsors of the event included Bemis Company, Inc., Fox Valley Technical College, Plexus, Time Warner Cable, UW-Fox Valley, UW-Oshkosh WalMart, School Specialty, and Wisconsin Energy Foundation.
Dates for the 2011 event are July 18 to 22.
